Implant-Supported Dentures Process
You will start your smile journey with a consultation and impressions at our dental practice based in Hamden, just like our traditional denture patients do. We will examine you to determine if you are a candidate and if you need any preparatory treatment. The treatment timeline will differ, but thanks to immediate dentures, you won't ever have to go without teeth.
Implant Placement
Your dentist can surgically place your implants during the appointment after your consultation. We offer immediate denture placement, but it is important to note that these are temporary dentures and not your permanent set. Over the next several months, your implants will fuse to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration.
Final Restoration Placement
Once your permanent set of dentures is ready, you will come in for placement. Your dentist will make any adjustments to ensure proper fit, function, and comfort. Caring for Your Dentures
If you have implant-supported dentures, you will treat them just as you would treat your natural teeth by brushing and flossing at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Caring for traditional dentures is a bit different.
Rinse your mouth with water before removing your dentures to loosen any food particles. Warm water will also loosen the denture adhesive. It is important to rinse your mouth and dentures after you eat regardless of whether you are removing them to clean.
After removing your dentures, clean your mouth, tongue, gums, and any remaining natural teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste.
Clean your dentures with a denture cleaner or mild toothpaste. You can also soak them overnight with a denture cleaner. It is best to remove them before you sleep. When you are not wearing or soaking your dentures, be sure to store them where they do not get lost or damaged.
