Gum Disease Treatment
Gum treatment, or periodontal therapy, involves improving and maintaining the health of the gums and soft tissues of the mouth, as well as the prevention and treatment of gum disease. The gums, or gingiva, are a part of the soft tissue lining in the mouth. Your gums surround your teeth and are attached to the underlying bone. When there are changes in color to your gums, swelling, increased redness, bleeding, or separation from the bone, gum treatment may be necessary to preserve the health of your teeth. These issues may all be indications of gum disease. Although many are unaware, most American adults are affected by gum disease, or periodontal disease to some degree. Fortunately, periodontal disease is relatively easy to control when detected and treated before it has a chance to progress. This prevalence is one of the reasons why Dr. Aaron Gross encourages patients to schedule routine oral examinations and professional dental cleanings. As with most dental problems, prevention is the best line of defense against gum disease. Contact our office in Hamden, East Haven, or Branford to schedule your dentist appointment.
